Who we are
Ansari Law Associates (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a legal consultancy based in Lahore, Pakistan, providing banking, corporate, ADR, property, and overseas Pakistani legal services. You can reach us at ansarilaw1950@gmail.com or 009 042 35915780.
For the purposes of applicable data protection law (including, where relevant, the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR), we act as the data controller for information collected through this website and direct client engagements.
What we collect
We collect only what we need in order to respond to you and act for you. This is typically:
- Contact details you submit through our inquiry form, email, or WhatsApp — name, email, phone, country.
- Matter information you voluntarily share describing your legal issue.
- Identity and KYC documents once a retainer is signed (CNIC, passport, address proof, etc.), as required by Pakistani law.
- Technical data — anonymised IP, device, and page-view information via privacy-friendly analytics.
We do not use advertising cookies or sell your data to third parties. Full stop.
How we use it
We use the information you share to:
- Respond to your inquiry and prepare for an initial consultation.
- Act for you on a retained matter — drafting, filing, appearing, and reporting.
- Meet our professional obligations under the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, AML rules, and the Pakistan Bar Council's Canons of Professional Conduct and Etiquette.
- Send you emailed receipts, engagement letters, and case updates.
- Operate and secure our website.
We do not use your data for marketing without your explicit opt-in.
Lawful basis
Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, we rely on one of the following lawful bases:
- Consent — for marketing emails or optional newsletter sign-ups.
- Contract — to take steps at your request before entering into a retainer, and to perform the retainer itself.
- Legal obligation — to comply with regulatory, tax, and anti-money-laundering requirements.
- Legitimate interests — to operate and secure our website and respond to prospective clients.
Who we share it with
Information is shared only on a need-to-know basis with:
- Lawyers and staff of the firm working on your matter.
- Barristers, expert witnesses, and counsel instructed on your case, with your consent.
- Courts, tribunals, and authorities to the extent required to represent you.
- Our email, document, and infrastructure providers, which are bound by data-processing agreements.
We do not transfer your personal data outside Pakistan except where doing so is necessary for your matter (for example, corresponding with a consulate, overseas counsel, or your own instructions), or where you have asked us to.
How long we keep it
For prospective clients who do not proceed to retainer, we delete inquiry records within twelve months of last contact unless you ask us to keep them longer.
For retained clients, case files are retained for seven years after the matter closes, in line with professional-record requirements in Pakistan. Thereafter they are securely destroyed.
Your rights
Depending on where you are based, you may have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct information that is wrong or out of date.
- Ask us to delete data we no longer need to keep.
- Withdraw consent to marketing at any time.
- Complain to a supervisory authority — in the UK, the ICO; in Pakistan, the Federal Investigation Agency's Cybercrime Wing.
To exercise any of these rights, email ansarilaw1950@gmail.com with the subject line “Data request”.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our practices change, and date the revision at the top. Material changes will be notified to existing clients by email.
